Takazaki Town in Miyakonojo City has been selected as the best stargazing spot in Japan seven times. At the top of a hill in the town is the Tachibana Observatory, which houses a huge telescope with an aperture of 50 cm and attracts numerous astronomy fanatics from around the country. The observatory also hosts an array of different events that visitors are sure to enjoy.
